Iranians appeared to have turned out in large numbers yesterday to vote in nationwide parliamentary elections. In Tehran, lines formed at major mosques where polling took place.

Opinions differed between young voters who supported reform ideas, like one 27-year-old Iranian who said, “I am voting because I did not vote in the two previous elections. As a result, people I don’t like were elected, and their policies have affected my life,” and more conservative voters who support President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
The Interior Ministry extended polling hours to encourage high turnout, which was expected to be between 50 and 60 percent. Reformist supporters feared unfair balloting practices and complained Friday of irregularities and discrimination at polling places as well as the decision by the Interior Ministry to announce the election results only after the vote tally was final. Results had always been announced as they were tallied in the past while counting continued. This change makes some suspicious of government interference in the results.

Ok totally off topic but the inside of that building is gorgeous!
1"As a result, people I don’t like were elected, and their policies have affected my life"
That is a great statement. Young voters over here should take heed of that as well. Despite how rigged the Iranian elections may be, the fact that youth are still coming out in the hopes that their vote will count says so much.
Oh, and that girl in the picture is so pretty
2I'm glad I'm not the only shallow one! Hehe...I looked at her and though, "I don't look like that when I go out to vote!"
On topic though....I have a feeling the youth vote in the US will die out as usual when November gets around, short attention spans.
3I agree with you about the youth vote in the US, zeze. I do hope it will still remain statistically higher than the norm, though, what with the historical impact of having either a female or a minority Presidential candidate
4Im 20 and will be 21 by the time November comes around. Its my first time voting for president and I would not miss it for anything. I go to school on a pretty political campus and I know that a lot of people feel the same. I think that the youth vote stats will definitely be higher this year than ever before.
5Wow she is beautiful.I'm very glad that this is happening.
6I agree. or not.
