Rolling Stone has a giant crush on Barack Obama. The magazine endorsed Barack Obama. This is the first time in its history it has issued a primary season endorsement. Here's how the ode to Obama begins:
The tides of history are rising higher and faster these days. Read them right and ride them, or be crushed. And then along comes Barack Obama, with the kinds of gifts that appear in politics but once every few generations. There is a sense of dignity, even majesty, about him, and underneath that ease lies a resolute discipline. It's not just that he is eloquent — with that ability to speak both to you and to speak for you — it's that he has a quality of thinking and intellectual and emotional honesty that is extraordinary.
The strong endorsement also calls Hillary Clinton a capable and personable senator, but regrets that her campaign represents everything that makes "us so discouraged about our politics." Check out the entire endorsement tittled "A New Hope." You can grab a hard copy on tomorrow's newsstands.
Does this type of dramatic endorsement impact you? If not, perhaps it still represents a sentiment shared by many Americans.

It would have been cool if Hunter S. Thompson was still alive and wrote it!
It doesn't impact me, since I already know who I'm voting for, but if the article has some real information to it, it might definitely have an effect. It's just another way to get information so that one can make up one's own mind.
1I've never read an endorsement of a candidate that made me change my mind about my choice. Early in a race it could get me thinking, but this late in the game my mind is made up and I'm clear on my reasons why.
2Dignity and majesty? Barack seems a tad immature and insecure to me. Just sayin'.
3I think this all a bit of over kill and might wind up doing damage. People are going to be sick of seeing his face come election time.
4"Barack seems a tad immature and insecure to me."
That was pretty much uncalled for. Insecure? Wow, that's the most absurd statement I've read in a LONG time. Are you one of Hillary's campaign managers?
5Does anyone even READ Rolling Stone anymore?! I think I heard somewhere that their circulation has plummeted... Maybe because they don't report on much music anymore..
6Rolling Stone's politics have always been pretty revolting to me. I'm a liberal too, but they're overdramatic. I don't care who they endorse, especially since my mind is made up.
7My issue with magazines:
Less people are reading so they add more advertisements to make up for lost profits.
I pick up a magazine and can't find anything but advertisements, so I put it down.
Even less people are reading magazines, so they add more advertisements to increase revenues.
It's literally 200 pages of advertisements and I still can't find an article.....
8This is just as interesting as the Jack Nicholson endorsement.
9Hahahaha....very true!!!
10Well, at least it's not an endorsement from a late-night sketch comedy show...oh, wait.
Couldn't help myself!
Seriously, though, these endorsements have gotten out of hand. I understand other politicians and community leaders officially endorsing a candidate, but who really wants to know who Rolling Stone, Jay-Z, and Tina Fey support? And do these campaigns even want to be affiliated with these often polarizing publications and celebrities? What about the backlash when said publications and celebs go against their candidates (i.e. NYT and McCain)? I just don't understand this whole endorsement business, I guess.
11I'm not surprised by this. Obama is a presidential hopeful rockstar, practicall, lol!
12Um, really, should informed voters care what ROLLING STONES really think?
13Rolling Stone has always been pretty political. A lot of young people read it.
I remember being in my early teens reading the political articles in this magazine. I think it was good for me. It gets the younger people interested, in my opinion.
14OBAMA 2008!
15B-O-R-I-N-G
16and I agree with Cine, all this media attention could ultimately cause Obama damage. Too much media is never a bad thing...for Lindsey, Britney, and Paris.
17i think he kind of looks like clark kent in this pic lol. the way he is standing with his hands on his hips, that was the first thing i thought of when i saw this cover.
18"Dignity and majesty? Barack seems a tad immature and insecure to me. Just sayin'."
It's not like Barack wrote this article himself....so if you think he is immautre and insecure because of what Rolling Stone said...well that is just stupid.
19Does anyone even READ Rolling Stone anymore?! I think I heard somewhere that their circulation has plummeted... Maybe because they don't report on much music anymore..
That's exactly why I stopped reading it years ago.
20Wow!
I just heard that the whole NAFTA-gate incident has been clarified, and it was actually a CLINTON spokeperson who said that their stance on NAFTA was just campaign rhetoric. I heard it on Kieth Oberman on MSN.
I think it is interesting that multiple people that have NEVER made endorsements are speaking out for Obama (Oprah, Caroline Kennedy, Rollingstone). It seems he inspires others to make "firsts" as well.
21"It seems he inspires others to make "firsts" as well."
Yes, yes he does.
22I find it a bid scary how politicians in the U.S. (and other countries at certain times also) are worshiped like saints or stars. People behave like fans, not voters. Sometimes it seems as if its only the personality and not the political agenda that is important to them.
23I love it. I think anyone who inspires people to go out and vote is amazing. Even more amazing is that an African-American has a real chance of becoming president. Never thought it would happen in my lifetime.
24I think Obama is unbelievably charismatic and you can't fault him for that. Understandably so, mags like Rolling Stone etc. will gravitate toward something like that.
25The article isn't really all that informative on Obama's views and plans. If anyone votes for him based on that, they are pretty easily swayed.
26JUST like those who were easily swayed by Hillary being on SNL, right?
27Actually, indielove, yes. I also think it's ridiculous if Hillary's SNL appearance actually affected anyone's vote.
28"New politics" like having your Foreign policy adviser call Hillary Clinton a "Monster".
I'm not feeling very hopeful.
The longer this campaign goes on, the more clear it is Obama is nothing new.
29^^^
*yawn*
30What's up with that mystical white light surrounding him? It looks like he's radioactive.

32bonnabell: How can Obama control what his advisor would say "off the record" she made the comment off the record. The writer leaked it.
33Yea Hillary.l.. Actually, I am a Ralph Nader person because he lives in modest homes and is not a spendinista, which would mean to me, that he would carry that attitude and uprightness into the white house. Also, I see him as actually caring to all peoples and tries hard to help people with their needs and jobs and good education and to protect them from all the charlatenry of wicked politicians and big businesses that trash our oceans and rivers and open fields with hazardous chemicals and radiation-packed waste from nuclear power plants. God, I sound like a pinko commie, but we got to coordinate our power consumption and the products we buy with the environment. Great that we have a good economy, but we also have to clean up our backyards or we'll be sorry Homer Simpsons
