John Coleman wants to sue Al Gore for fraud. Coleman, who founded the Weather Channel in 1982, thinks taking legal action against Al Gore would be a great "vehicle to finally put some light on the fraud of global warming." Coleman rejects the notion that people must take drastic actions to reduce their energy use.

Speaking at the 2008 International Conference on Climate Change on Monday, Coleman sharply chastised those who further global warming alarmism. Coleman believes that the station he founded has been captured by alarmists, such as the Weather Channel’s Heidi Cullen, who has advocated revoking the license of meteorologists that believe global warming can be explained by cyclical weather patterns and not human activity.
The majority of the scientific community seems to agree that humans are contributing to climate change. Do you think there's any merit to raising concerns about global alarmism? Would a lawsuit against Al Gore help the public determine fact from fiction?

Yes! I am in the minority of the few people who believe in cyclical weather patterns. Sigh.
Not sure we need to sue the guy but wish people would look at all information before sensationalizing everything!
1I think it's some sort of combo of the two, j2e1n9. I believe in cyclical weather patterns as well, but think that humans are contributing to global warming in some part, I'm just not sure how much each factor plays in to it. I don't think suing Gore will achieve much, but I definitely agree about things being sensationalized. So yeah, whatj2e1n9 said about pretty much everything.
2Conservative Sugar strikes again! Good job Cine!
3Regardless of whether or not one believe what Gore says - isn't it to everyone's advantage if they drastically lessen their energy usage?
I'm just not sure that suing Gore will do anything other than make Coleman look foolish, ultimately.
4I don't think suing him will do any good but I don't believe in gobal warming. Everyone is sensationalizing it and freaking out about it. But, I do agree we should reduce our resources
5It's a combination of both humans and the environment.
6I'm alarmed by the alarm over global alarmism!
7For someone who founded the Weather Channel, he sure doesn't seem to know what he's talking about. Sure, weather patterns are cyclical, but we are exacerbating to the problem by living wastefully. Correct me if I'm wrong because I certainly don't follow his every move and I haven't seen his movie, but I don't think Al Gore has ever said weather patterns aren't cyclical- it's just that we are to blame for the really crazy patterns of late. Um, Katrina, anyone? Yeah, just another normal hurricane. Not so much.
8And what will suing Gore do? He'll just pay him off and thrive off the publicity.
9I seem to be alone, but I think we should sue. As said, it would be a great vehicle to bring to light what is really going on. What is fact, what is fiction, what is media sensationalism, and what is a scam?
I am all for Conservation, but people and companies who are paying out the nose for carbon credits, have the right to know the facts.
10It's not just pointed at Al Gore, but at suing all those who are heavily pushing the global warming concept and then selling "carbon credits" to offset this imminent disaster.
The law suit is to bring out all the scientific facts of both side plus bring to light how many people who are pushing global warming are making a lot of money by then selling carbon credits to offset this catastrophe.
I'm not saying would shouldn't take care of our environment, but we also need to look when the person being the loudest about something is also profiting immensely off something where scientists are still incredibly split on the matter.
11PS, Cine, you're not alone.
12"Al Gore has ever said weather patterns aren't cyclical- it's just that we are to blame for the really crazy patterns of late."
The point is, is there proof that it is humans fault, or can it be weather patterns?
13I'm not sure about suing Gore. That seems a bit silly. But global alarmism is certainly running rampant these days. That seems to be the way media operates. It's both a fad and a way to guilt. I'm not sure what I think about global warming. It makes sense to me that cyclical weather patterns are impacting our climate (because historically we have had cold periods, temperate periods and warm periods) but we should consider our actions as well. I think it makes sense for many reasons other than 'global warming' to consider energy usage and find ways to conserve, recycle and use fewer chemicals in/on products and food.
14"I'm not saying would shouldn't take care of our environment, but we also need to look when the person being the loudest about something is also profiting immensely off something where scientists are still incredibly split on the matter."
This is very well stated and I completely agree!
And Bethany, you are so right about Gore!
15Yay! Thanks, lil!
And it feels SO good to know I am not the only one that feels this way. Wow, made my day!
16Suing Al Gore would be a complete waste of time and money that would be better spent on educating people about lowing their energy consumption & reducing their impact on our only planet.
17"Suing Al Gore would be a complete waste of time and money that would be better spent on educating people about lowing their energy consumption & reducing their impact on our only planet."
Actually in the long run you could save money, and a lot of it, and THAT could go towards educating people on environmental issues and conservation.
18Oh and I forgot to say thank you 3M! Conservative sugar ROCKS!
19If Coleman sued Gore, it would be a civil suit. Civil suits take years & obscene amounts of money to run their course.
How would that be better?
20Well if we worked on facts and not a bunch of sensationalism, and stopped people like Gore from making huge profits off of people, then the people/companies that were being ripped off, could then in turn put the money towards education on the environment.
Not sure how allowing Gore to become more wealthy is helping anyone but himself.
21Al Gore is a complete hypocrite. I mean if he were actually living in a tree somewhere I might actually take him seriously. But the guy lives in a mansion that just recently went "green". He had naturaly gas lanterns outside his house, for crying out loud. I'm greener than he is!
22Cine, maybe he considers all that green money he's acquiring to be his "green" contribution. Hypocrite.
23If the majority of scientists say that global warming is greatly influenced by humans, and Al Gore bases his arguement on this...shouldn't Coleman REALLY be suing the scientists he disagrees with?
This whole idea of suing over this is absurd, but I also find blaming everything on Al Gore super absurd!
24Jillness, I'm not blaming Al Gore for anything. I'm just saying that he shouldn't be the poster child for global warming. If you're going to talk the talk then you should at least live by the standards that you're trying to impose on others.
25And then profit off of it on top of it!
26Piper I am sure he laughing all the way to his private jet.
And Jill, as stated, he would be a vehicle to put all these con artists on the stand, so that facts would come out. It is not just about Al Gore.
And who says the Majority of Scientists say that global warming is greatly influenced by Humans? Gore? I have read that less then 50% of published Scientists believe that Global warming is man made.
27Well if we worked on facts and not a bunch of sensationalism, and stopped people like Gore from making huge profits off of people, then the people/companies that were being ripped off, could then in turn put the money towards education on the environment.

Do you know how many lawyers would become wealthy from a suit like this? I agree that getting information to people is the most important issue, but a lawsuit would be a terrible way to do that. The money, time & energy wasted on a lawsuit could be put to better use.
Gore isn't the only "poster child" for the environmental movement.
And the "green-ness" of your house depends on what is available from the power company. If the "greenest" power they make is natural gas, then thats as "green" as you can get.
28piper~ Are you a Clemson fan?
29I think there was something invented called a lightbulb that would have served the same purpose as his natural gas lanterns. I could be wrong but I do believe there is such a thing.
30Clemson all the way!
31Bu this weekend I'm a Duke fan! GO DUKE!!
32Right on, I hate USC!
I agree tht he could have used a light bulb, but the bulb itself would still be powered by the burning of natural gas.
33Haha! i feel ya!
34Do you live in SC? I'm in Charleston
35you're right, its a vicious cycle. Down with the Gamecocks! Jeeze, you would think it was football season the way I'm talking.
36I understand where you are coming from Sashak, but I think we are going to forever disagree on this.
37Yes, I'm in SC! Good to know that I have a fellow South Carolinian on here!
38Thats cool, I disagree with folks all the time. Just don't cut me off in traffic. THEN we'd have a problem!
39Ditto!
40
We SC drivers are awful...
41Nothing is worse then Los ANgeles drivers. YOu don't have to worry about me cutting you off, my fiance on the other hand...that is another story!
42Never been to LA but San Francisco scared the hell out of me. The traffic was pretty bad too!
I kid - I loved San Fran!
43I'd rather be safe than sorry, really. lol I don't think suing Al Gore will do anything except bring more attention to the issue. Is that what this guy wants?
44"I don't think suing Al Gore will do anything except bring more attention to the issue. Is that what this guy wants?" - To bring attention that the main supporter of Global Warming is making tons of money by selling Carbon Credits to offset it?
Yes, I believe that is what he wants.
45Does anyone else think that it looks like all three fish are going for Al Gore's head?
46yet another reason why i think i should stop reading CitizenSugar.
47
I hate driving & would probably die of fright on th estreets of LA or SF!
48THey look like they are in attack mode!!
"To bring attention that the main supporter of Global Warming is making tons of money by selling Carbon Credits to offset it?
Yes, I believe that is what he wants."
3M said it perfectly.
49How did I not notice that the fish are in attack mode! The one on the left has that real mean look in his eye.
