I’m not sure if it’s a personality trait or a female trait, but sometimes when I’m sad or feeling down, I really like to embrace it; it can feel really good just to cry it out. When I’m in one of these moods, there’s nothing I’d rather do than put on a great sad song and just let it all out. I actually have a go to list of songs for just that occasion, like Peter Gabriel "Don't Give Up" or Lauryn Hill's "Ex-Factor." Am I alone on this or do you do it too? And if you do, do tell, what's your sad song?

1I have a lot haha!
Yeah I do. I dont really understand how making myself feel worse, makes me feel better, but it does. I have tons of these songs..I cant think of any specific song that I put on when Im depressed, usually something by dashbaord confessional or something of the like..I listen to "alternative" or what some would call "emo" music though, which both tend to be on the more depressing side as it is...
2Belle and Sebastian's "If You're Feeling Sinister", especially "Seeing Other People". It's some of the peppiest yet depressing as hell music ever. I know I'm starting to hit the winter duldrums when I start finding myself listening to that over and over again.
3I have too many...haha
4I usually write in my journal during my down times. That always seems to help. But, there is one song that always gets me in a sad mood and that's "All By Myself" by Jamie O'Neal. It was featured prominently in the first Bridget Jones movie. Probably cuz I'm still single, but that song always makes me feel miserable!!!
5I go to Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now."
6Its totally normal! I like being able to relate to the emotions in a song- it helps me cope.
7Barry Manilow - Weekend in new england. dont laugh. I am a Fanilow.
8Yes, I have loads of them depending on the situation, but one I'm using now is Sia- Breathe me
9Never Meant by American Football. ooh, and Ashley, I love that Sia song too.
10My Favorite Mistake by Sheryl Crow, November Rain by Guns n Roses, and Piano Man by Billy Joel. They're just so melancholy, it somehow makes me feel better.
11Oooh, I have to second ashleygaidhlig's pick: Sia, Breath Me...such a great song!
12Yes, I definately embrace my sadness! I've read that tears cleanse the body of a certain chemical that makes us feel sad.
I listen to "Breathe Me" by Sia, "Loveology" by Regina Spektor, "The Trapeze Swinger" by Iron & Wine, "Let It Be" by the Beatles, "Gravity" by Vienna Teng, "The Times They Are a Changin'" by Bob Dylan, and "Poison Oak" by Bright Eyes.
13I didn't read the comments before I posted. It's cool that two other people also chose "Breathe Me." I feel like I belong now. Hehe.
14all i need is a bitter song, to make me better...
15Anything Nick Drake is pretty depressing.
16yes I do-but there's way too many to pick just one.
17*How's It Gonna Be* by Third Eye Blind
and on and on...
18Ugh, I have way too many.
LaLaLaurie, I LOVE Both Sides Now. I think it's like, the only realistic song about love out there.
I also agree that Nick Drake is pretty depressing but I adore him anyway.
But my top sad/pick me up song, without question, is "Here I go again on my own"
It's my theme song
19Love it, NadiaPotter

22Anything by Elliot Smith, I love "Both Sides Now" too!, and a lot of other things.
23Yep. The Smiths "How Soon Is Now?".
24I think that being super down is a way to sort of fast foward yourself. Sometimes it's the only thing that makes me feel better. I have way to many of these songs to name them all, but a few good ones for me Perfect Blue Buildings by Counting Crows, The Mountains win Again by Blues Traveler and Sleep to Dream Her by Dave Mathews Band I especially love the line that goes "it seems so unerving yet somehow deserving that you could hold my heart so tightly and still not see me here" Can't tell you how many nights I've felt like that
25Pop, I love here i go again on my own
I listen to a lot of different songs but i always play Sublime if i wanna feel better and get myself in a good mood. I love them and their music is great and i love to blast it in the car and sing along!
26"Angel" by Sarah McLachlan.......sad, but comforting.
27Breathe- by Sia. It gets me everytime!
28Stefapie, Belle & Sebastian also get me through some tough times. "I'm waking up to us" is the one I turn to most often - great instrumentation and lovely bitter lyrics. What more could you want?
29The Magnetic Fields also are great for a down day.
the classic one 'everybody hurts' by REM, also their song 'daysleeper'. 'the rock' by Simon and Garfunkel. 'the drugs don't work' by the Verve.
30i just turn to fiona apple and she delivers!
31And all that could've been by Nine Inch Nails. Check it out.. amazingly sad song
32i have a million too. i especially like "strong enough" by sheryl crow or "long december" by the counting crows.
when i'm done with my sad songs i get back on track by listening to "fix you" by coldplay and "bridge over troubled water". they're still mellow so they go with my mood, but for some reason they always make me re-evaluate why i'm sad and help cheer me up!
33Sarah Mclachlan's album Surfacing does it for me! Dave Matthews Band cheers me up!
34"Hemorrhage" -- Fuel, "Nobody Knows It But Me" -- Babyface, "For My Fallen Angel" -- My Dying Bride... and more, of course.
35anything by Vertical Horizon, oh boy
36right now im really into that song Sorry by buckcherry
37The first one that came to my mind was "Scratch" by Kendall Payne. But in fact in moments like this, I turn to my endless Grey's Anatomy soundtrack and put all the sad songs (there's a LOT of them, remember season 2?) on my play list.
And after reading the previous posts, I'm going to check out the Sia song.
38Nobody Knows by The Toni Rich Project
39I have tooo many to mention, but Backstreets by Springsteen is one of them!
40I have tooo many to mention, but Backstreets by Springsteen is one of them!
41I really like listening to "Samson" by Regina Spektor.
42Alicia Keys - Why Do I Feel So Sad
43Wow. I thought I was the only one who did this! I dont understand how making myself feel worse makes me feel better but I'm glad I'm not alone.
It totally depends on my situation. I listen to songs that feel like the artist is speaking directly to me.
44Could It Be Any Harder by The Calling
