Prince Harry's service in Afghanistan has come to a swift conclusion after a Drudge tip prompted news outlets everywhere yesterday to break their silence on the Prince's whereabouts.

Harrry has been deployed to Afghanistan since December, but many news outlets agreed to keep the information secret for security reasons. The decision for Harry's swift removal came from the British Ministry of Defense who said in a statement,
The decision by elements of the foreign media to report Prince Harry's presence in Afghanistan without any consultation with the Ministry of Defense is regrettable. . . worldwide media coverage of Prince Harry in Afghanistan could impact on the security of those who are deployed there, as well as the risks to him as an individual soldier.
The decision must be disappointing for the royal who said in a recent interview, "At the end of the day I like to sort of be a normal person, and for once I think this is about as normal as I'm ever going to get. As far as I'm concerned, I'm out here as a normal JTAC on the ground and not as Prince Harry."

This annoys me b/c he's lucky that he gets the luxury of being pulled out like that. I wish my BF would have that.
1Way to go media; being selfless as always. Insert eyeroll here.
2Shop, he would be especially targeted now that everyone knows he's there. It was respectable for him to be there at all, it's not his fault he has to leave now.
3They are blaming foreign media...but wasn't it the Queen who said something to the press about it in the first place?
I could be wrong, but I thought that is how it all started.
4I agree foxie.
5not to mention foxie that if he hadn't been pulled out after being outed his whole unit could have been targeted.
6I thought there was some sort of understanding that the press shouldn't report on him being in Afghanistan whle he was there for his and his company's security. I know that journalists like to be the ones to break major stories but this was so unnecessary.
7nya - thats what i thought too!
8The thing is that he doesn't want to be pulled. He was supposed to go in before the summer, his officers had promised him, but they changed their minds right before he was supposed to go. It seems he put some sort of ultimatum up and they agreed to send him in December after all, but this was the only thing he wanted to do. In Britain the Royal family gets the same amount of coverage like Britney and Lindsay here, so as a soldier in the field was the closest thing he got to be a regular guy. I think it is sad.
9Tres I think he wanted to go to Iraq, but they would not let him, then they "settled" on Afghanistan.
10I see, cine.
11Dumbass Drudge.
12I love me some Drudge, but I do not agree with this decision, and not for Harry, but for the safety of other soldiers.
13And does anyone else find this headline the least bit amusing?
14Your dirty mind strikes again!
15We called this yesterday when the story broke. lol My dad and I were like, he'll be on the first plane home TONIGHT, because as of this afternoon there's a very large price on his head.
16cine_lover I was thinking the same thing!! Guess my mind is in the gutter also.
I suscribe to Bon Apetit magazine and on the cover of last month's issue they avertised a "special pull-out guide" and I found it very amusing, much to the dismay of my slightly more mature BF
17Glad to know I'm not the only one with a mind in the gutter! I have to say that I really respect him for wanting to go. As a royal, he could easily have sat back and continued to party and never gotten a taste of the real world. It was so irresponsible of that Australian magazine and the Druge Report to break the story.
18My British girlfriend always complains about early withdrawal.
19Good thing he did it to, we wouldn't want Afghanistan getting pregnant.
20Ah, philleif, it seems you were a little quicker than me.
21I know Tres! I just can't help it!
22Clean it up people! haha!
23ok now im thinking my comment really only added fuel to the fire..
24Not surprising at all.
25It's Prince Harry's mess, he should clean it up.
26What's his mess? Being in Afghanistan?
27M3
28Oh my God; now my head is full of weird images including maps and cleaning up mess off it and British girls and Prince Harry and you guys... it's too much!
:0
29M3 - I got it!

I am so proud I started this. Is that wrong?
31Shop, they took him out because the taliban would SPECIFICALLY target his group and him and therefore make thier Jobs a thousand times more dangerous. its not favortism its called saving more than Harry from certain death.
32It's not wrong, cine, we all have our special talents
33I dont know if I can blame Drudge because if I read it right some Australian newspaper brought it up first and then drudge broke it. On the other hand I do not believe the American press had anything set up with the british government because if they did, would that not be infringing on our freedom of the press? That is what Drudge did was exercise his right to free press whether it was right of wrong in peoples eyes to endanger the prince and his fellow soldiers.
34It's not infringing on freedom of the press because NOTHING is going to happen to them. From what I understand, the British press was asked not to break to story for security reasons. But, I do think it is ABUSE of freedom of the press to break a story like that because it put an entire unit's life in danger. And for what?
35Mariner, the British press did not break it, but it was not for admirable reasons. They were promised photo ops and stories and paid off to keep their mouth shut. It is not like they did it out of the goodness of their hearts.
36It's difficult to pull off something like this and I think the Royal family, their people, the press...whoever or all of them...agreed to some coverage. BUT they were NOT to air it until his tour of duty was OVER.
No one wanted to risks the lives of the other soldiers or Harry's. If it had all worked out this way, everyone would have gotten what they wanted and thought was best. It wasn't like the Royals would have endangered the 2nd in line to the throne for "coverage"...their not stupid. But once he was safe they may have not minded some other good to come if it, and it would have been a maturing experience for Harry (hopefully)....
37Shop, was your boyfriend drafted?
It's too bad that this happened, but I wonder how secure the information about his location or his mission was if the press found out. I mean, can we assume that the Taliban or groups that it might have connections to would have intel. comparable to that of the press? I just question how "top secret" you can keep information like this anyway?
And this headline made my day. I am going to pretend it's about me!!
38While I don't agree with this war and think if you don't have to sign-up, don't. So I think he is very lucky to have gotten out. However the media is awful; they risked his life and everyone other soldier around him by releasing this news. The media should have kept it's disgusting mouth quite.
39Good to see that I'm not the only one who found the title amusing!lol.
40What a hottie.
41mcpro26, It would not be an infringement of freedom of the press even if they did tell the American media to hold it. The British government has no control over the American media other than to just not tell them anything. However, because he is a potential ruler they probably felt an obligation to tell the media outright on the condition that the media would get coverage or an exclusive at a later date. It is a bit sad they need to make promises like that, and I'd like to believe most editors (at least ones with ethics) would see that it should be kept hush-hush.
