Did any of you catch this weekend's episode of Saturday Night Live? If not, you missed one hilarious skit! It was modeled after the birth control pill Seasonale, which only gives you four periods a year. SNL's hypothetical Annuale only allows one period a year, leaving the women in this ad in PMS hell when Aunt Flow finally does arrive. As funny and kitschy as this commercial is, it holds some truth as well. As we all know, PMS is never fun so do tell, what's your worst PMS symptom?

When I'd PMS, I used get have bloat, large dense breasts, really bad acne, extreme fatigue (I would sleep 9 hours a night and still need a 3 hour afternoon nap), severe cramping, a monthly migraine (always 4-6 days before my period), aaaand the emotional issues (mostly irritability and anger).
I'm now on the Nuva-Ring for PMDD and I skip my periods, which has fixed all the physical issues, but I still get pretty irate one week of the month. I've heard of people being put on anti-depressants for PMDD, is anyone on it?
1Da**, cjmara805. I don't get those syptoms. I get cramps horrible and my hips hurt like where my leg and hip join-weird I know but I have throbbing pain there.
2oh i get them all,I get horrible cramps and my back hurts and all the good stuff. but the worst would probably be my mood. Ive been told (though never formally diagnosed) by doctors that I have PMDD. About a week before I start my period I get really horrible mood swings. I mean like..really, downright b*tchy. I honestly cant help it, most of the time I dont even realize how b*tchy Im being until my BF says something, but even then its impossible to lift the negative mood.
3Gassiness. It was awful. Now I'm on lo-estrin, which is like Seasonale and I pretty much don't have periods.
4Insatiable food cravings. I crave sugar, salt, and fatty, rich foods. These cravings dominate my brain.
5Yeah I get sweet cravings and I get irritable...
6Mood swings.
Sometimes, my legs feel weak and my breasts feel dense... But I'm generally okay. I'm pretty lucky.
7I'm on stuff to regulate them, so I don't have anything too terrible. I do get moody though. And like GlowingMoon, I have cravings that literally take over my thought process until I satisfy them.
PS - that sketch on SNL was HILARIOUS!!!
8Food cravings, usually for something sweet.
9I burst out into tears for no reason at all. I crave chocolate.
10I start crying over pretty much nothing - which is wierd for people who don't know me because the rest of the month I'm the rational never-shows-emotion one.
11I get cramps and mood swings.
12oh i hate even thinking about it... i break out in horrible acne on my face, chest, and back that won't go away no matter what i do until the hell is over, i get very irritable and moody... i have cramps that feel like a monster is trying to claw its way out of me... and i always have at least one hysterical fit of crying that i can't seem to control. at the time it always seems perfectly normal, but after my period is over i can clearly see i was just PMS-ing hardcore.
i need to be locked up in a dark room with junk food, ibuprofen, and a heating pad once a month, i think!!
13I have endometreosis... Really bad cramps from front to back, achy-ness, exhaustion (anemic due to heavy blood loss) and headaches... Until hubby and I decided to get pregnant I was on BC and it helped some but it still sucked...
14My colitis gets nearly unmanageable during the week before and during, and I feel like I'm going to die. I get migraines, severe cramps(although they have been better), I get angry, I usually don't want to eat anything, tired all the time, body aches. It sucks. I need to go on a new pill or something.
15I don't PMS anymore since I'm on the pill. But when I used to. I'd cry and scream, throw things sometimes... mostly cry.
One time, it was the dress rehearsal for our school musical and I just started crying out of no where during warm-ups. I told everyone I was just nervous about the play, lol.
16I don't say what I mean and I don't mean what I say - people who happen to be in my way or piss me off when I'm in one of my mood swings can get hurt emotionally (sometimes physically!) pretty badly.
17When I saw the SNL skit I fell of my chair laughing. Umm I would say horrible cramps.
18Acne, sweets cravings, bloating and cramps.
19The worst symptom for me or for everybody around me...?
20I get cramps, but they aren't as bad as when I wasn't on the pill. The worst part is my blood sugar is much more sensitive and I have to eat more often.
21Oh God! I have really bad cramps, my hips and lower back ache constantly and even my va-jayjay hurts and throbs with pain! I'm also severely emotional, I'll be really irritable one moment before I burst into tears the next. If my periods were lighter during this time I might be able to tolerate it, but I stay on heavy flow for the whole week!
22HAH! I have PMS right now! I had to go buy Pamprin for the first time ever because my usual drug of choice ibuprofen was not working for my cramps. BTW there is a formula of Midol that is basically ibuprofen
My worst symptoms are my first day cramps. My uterus, back and knees HURT. I also get really bad depression (and sometimes anger)
23My body does this amazing thing where I have a wild card symptom every time in addition to the severe cramping, exhaustion, and emotional friability. Sometimes it's severe GI issues, sometimes it's dizziness, nearly anything you can imagine. It's gotten to be quite the joke with my close friends. At least it's gotten better over the years, when I was in college I was on Rx pain killers and still missed two days of class each month. Now I grit my teeth and bear it with some Aleve.
24My boyfriend says he hates how I just put my body down the whole time...and cramps in my back too...thanks god I only get it 4 times a year!!!
25My situation is really weird. I used to have no symptom at all BEFORE I went on the pill. Then it got really bad. I tried two different pills, they both made me feel awful. It wasn't for me at all. I don't want to get into the details too much, but let's say I had non-stop bleeding for several months, horrible breast pain (all the time), crazy bloating, monthly infections, and so much pain I couldn't lay down or sit.
26I stopped taking it about four months ago and I'm almost back to normal, except for PMS. I now have cramps, back pain, sensitive breasts and weird cravings. I was never very regular, but now I am. And also I now have cramps on the date I ovulate.
I've seen my doctor many times about all this, but everything looks normal. I feel like I'm an alien.
I'm moooooooooooooooody.
27crampz and me stuffing food iin my face every 2 miinutes thatz completely the worse!
28everyone in my house knows to watch out for me once a month...my poor roommates know that once they see the ben and jerry's in the freezer, they should steer clear. i get really mean, am an emotional wreck, and feel like my back is going to explode.
29however, i've recently started loestrin and i have to say, i love it.
oh we're actually answering this? I just wanted to say, I freaking LOVE tina fey.
I take my pills for like five months in a row, so this skit was pretty funny to me...if you are on any type of BC that does not vary in the amount of hormones throughout the month you can just take them back to back, it's pretty fabulous! Cuz, ya know, I just don't have TIME to get my period!
30i get moody, burst into tears and crave salty things. And this was when I was ON the pill. Now I stopped taking the pill and haven't had my period in about 3 months.... dun dun dun.... I don't even want to IMAGINE what my PMS is going to be like
31I get the worst cramps in the world. I have to take pills just to get through. Major exhaustion (more so than usual) and sore breasts. I also get b*tchy, mostly to my fam, and I cry the week before my period. I do cry a lot, but esp. when it comes close to my period I cry even more.
32Ugh, I'm PMSing right now. I hate it. My breasts always hurt for like a full week, I get ridiculously hot, I get really bloated, I eat all kinds of crap, and I get really restless at night about three or four nights before I get my period. It's like clockwork. Plus, I can be a major b****. Everybody is like.... whoa, watch out!
33Oh yeah... And with everyone talking about crying, I cry at really stupid things... Like dog food commercials. lol, it's bad!
34I cry about ANYTHING. I have even got to the point where I get so depressed I start looking at dropping out of school and running away to Europe
35Oh my God, this thread is like therapy. I get sad. Not angry, but sad. I cry, and I stop believing in myself. Outside of PMS, I am confident and happy and never doubt myself. It's amazing how these hormones can affect who you ARE on a particular day.
Another bad thing is that my feet muscles squeeze up and remain tense. I loose coordination in walking, picking up things. And of course the bloated tummy.
And I also hate how my face loses its glow and I look like an old lady.
Ha. No such thing as ONE worst symptom people. They're ALL horrible.
36Horrible cramps, mood swings, and cravings.
37I know when aunt flo is on the way but i can't say that i suffer from pms. Seriously.
38PMS is the absolute worst. My skin is a disaster, I get the WORST cramps and to top it all off, I really and truly turn into a psycho moody chick.
39It really depends on the month, however my worst ones are headaches and cravings. I also tend to be super tired even after I sleep eight hours a night.
40The chocolate cravings, tiredness, and mood swings.....
41Usually the day before I get my period, I go completely ballistic on everyone in my house! I try not to do it, but it just happens. I yell and cry about how much they are slobs and never clean up. Then I go on a nut case cleaning bindge until the house is spotless or I collapse from being so tired.
I try so hard not to do this. But I'm a total neat freak and things just seem a million times worse right before I get my period.
42The works! I cry over nothing, I cramp until I can't walk anymore, I get bloated and my breasts swell up... and I crave anything sweet or fat!
43chocolate! and lots and lots of it.. I don't necessarily like it while i'm on my monthly but DEFINITELY crave it the week before.. Also, I am very emotional.. up and down and up and down for a few days. it's pretty annoying
44My PMDD is so bad that it causes me to feel as if 2 weeks of every month is dedicated to not "losing it." Thank you, Wellbutrin, for keeping me level and functional.
