Flipping channels after Meet the Press Sunday, I stumbled across Kid Rock's new video for his song, "Amen." I have to say it's a little jarring (and refreshing?) to see a video where the shocking and subversive images aren't girls in tiny bikinis or guys covered with bling, but scenes from the news, from reality. Though I don't know what that says about the world we're living in, I'm glad Kid Rock isn't shying away from showing the truth, even if it is gritty. Here's the video, check it out for yourself.
The lyrics don't hold back either, skewering a whole slate of subjects — to see who, read more.

Habitual offenders, scumbag lawyers with agendas
I'll tell you sometimes people I don't know what's worse
Natural disasters or these wolves in sheep clothes pastors
Now damn it I'm scared to send my children to church
And how can we seek salvation when our nations race relations
Got me feeling guilty of being white
But faith in human nature, our creator and our savior, I'm no saint
But I believe in what is right
Can rock and roll still shock? What does it mean that the truth is now harder to look at than any apocalyptic fantasy we can conjure up? Do you dig the song or is Kid Rock played out?

I was watching MTV when I was getting ready this morning, and this video came on. I'm not a big fan of Kid Rock, but the images made me stop what I was doing and pay attention to the video AND the lyrics.
It's actually a touching song.
1I respect him for trying, but I really don't like the song.
2He's just not a very good musician and the lyrics are trite.
I am clearly not this man's target audience.
3I respect him for speaking his mind.
4
I am afraid of the guy next to him..
5i says a lot of a person's character to be able to speak your mind and stand up for what you believe. too many times the famous hide behind their fame rather than using it to help and speak for those who cannot or will not. i'm not usually a kid rock fan but i liked this song.
6i kind of liked it. are you trying to be a decent person, or just blaming and condemning others? that's what I got from it.
7It's not a new idea though. in fact, he could write country songs!
Not a fan of Kid Rock, but I appreciate the effort and maybe it will provoke some of his fans to think more deeply. (Not to imply that none of his fans think deeply.)
8"And how can we seek salvation when our nations race relations
Got me feeling guilty of being white"
ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? oh lord...
9actually my reaction is combo of
and
10yeah, i am always so impressed when people mention church and our Creator and Savior and the cuss all in the same song. Sorry, but I think he is a dirt bag.
11I actually like this song. It's not my favorite but it's ok. It's a lot better than say Pink's "Mr. President". That one I can't stand!
12from what i understand her is pro bush and war in the middle east.so i have no idea what he is trying to sing about.he can't sing there is no message just a bunch of lyrics and a dreadful melody.i really have no idea what her is rambling about.but at least he is not using half naked women to sell his song and was maybe well intentioned.
13I personally love Kid Rock. If you ever hear him interviewed, he's really completely unlike the persona he portrays in the media. He's humble and smart, and it seems he sees both sides of the political coin. I get so sick of celebs using their power of persuasion without really knowing what they are talking about and I feel like Kid is very in tune with what's going on in the world. He has also spent 3 christmases in Iraq which to me, is very cool.
14I saw him interviewed about this song and he said that he named it Amen because it's a word that speaks to everyone — dem, repub, etc... — inject what you want to about the world around us and say Amen to it.
I like it.
