On this President's Day, John McCain gathered another key endorsement from a former president, that of George H. W. Bush. With the low ebb of the current President Bush's popularity, does this endorsement stand to bolster McCain's campaign? Does association with the Bushes stand to help or hurt McCain's reputation?

It's an interesting choice for Bush 41, I think. After all, it was his son's campaign that poisoned to heck any chance of John McCain winning the Republican nomination last go-around.
This endorsement may be his way of apologizing politically for all the rubbish the Republican establishment bleated out to tar and feather McCain in order to make Bush Jr look like a winner. It's also a way for Bushie Sr to make McCain a more politically viable choice for conservatives who might be threatening to boycott the elections if he is the candidate. Considering that most conservative talk radio hosts have not been jumping on the Straight Talk Express yet, it is a fairly important endorsement and quite possibly a nudge from the elder Bush to the elder Senator to step closer to the right. I'm just not sure how powerful the senior Bush's sway is in the party at this stage in the game.
1I think an endorsement from Bush Sr. is quite different than an endorsement from the current Bush, in a positive way. Bush Sr., in my opinion, was overall more liked and today still is in relation to his son. I think that people can separate one Bush from the other and not dislike someone just because of their relationship to a relative.
2i like mccain
3and i won't hold the bush's against him
I think doing it now that he's pretty much got the nomination is pretty harmless. If this was in the fall, I'd be wondering whether or not it'd have a negative impact.
4Bush Sr promise he wouldn't raise taxes a big no no and he did and he lost to Bill Clinton, whatever GO MCCAIN. YES WE WILL!
