Katherine Heigl was on Oprah last week dishing about everything from Grey's Anatomy to her wedding day. There's no denying that she's beautiful, but now she's even more perfect than she was before. She recently got her teeth straightened and was quoted saying, "I swear it's changed everything!"
We all know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I happen to think little imperfections are what make us unique. Since everyone has a different opinion on cosmetic surgery, let me ask you this: If you had the opportunity, would you fix your minor imperfections, or do you embrace your one-of-a-kind attributes?

She smokes and I think that's disgusting and makes her very unappealing.
As far as my imperfections, I guess it would depend on how severe it was and how much it bothered me. I think to try and be "perfect" isn't very realistic and keep in mind people like her have tons of money to fix whatever they want, whenever they want. So to go with the grain here isn't really helpful to most people's confidence.
I think imperfections can be beautiful.
1I sure would. And I'm not talking about going under the knife or anything extreme like that. I'd like to have flawless skin (I had bad backne), so if I could afford for my skin to be pretty, sure!
being all plastic...now THAT'S a different story. but even then, it's your body! do what u want.
2i wouldn't go as far as surgery (at least not yet) but by routinely waxing eyebrows, putting on lipstick, and blow-drying my hair i guess i fix my so-called imperfections on a regular basis
3IDK why people dislike her so much, I think she's okay. But I dont watch grey's anatomy...but she seems ordinary enough.
4Not if it involved cosmetic surgery...unless of course it was something severe. I just can't ever imagine myself going that far and I've learned to love and be happy with myself as I've gotten older.
I never noticed anything wrong with Katherine's teeth before, but it was probably one of those things that only she noticed. I think she's beautiful with or without perfectly straight teeth!
5I do things like pluck my eyebrows, straighten my hair, wear makeup, whiten my teeth. But I wouldnt go so far as to get plastic surgery. Mostly because I am terrified of going under the knife. I used to want to get a nose job, but then I saw what they actually do and almost puked. No way could I go through that!
6i would get laser eye surgery...
7Imperfections can be beautiful! But only if they're embraced by the people who have them. Personally, I fixed an imperfection of mine & I feel much better about it. One of my two front teeth stuck out a little more than the other & it bothered me ever since I was a kid. It was a totally cosmetic problem, not medical at all. Most people didn't even notice! But it bothered me & made me very self conscious, so I got braces to fix them.
As for getting cosmetic/plastic surgery, I don't think I would ever do that. I joke about getting breast implants, but I'm honestly happy with the way I am.
8Oops, I didn't mean for all of that to be italicized. Haha.
9I'm perfectly happy with my physical features. Any form of cosmetic surgery is a total no go. Even my fiance thinks I'm hot with my glasses on and loves my slightly crooked upper teeth.
10I would love to straighten my teeth (again)...I had braces, but didn't wear my retainer like I was supposed to and now my teeth are a little crooked...it really bothers me, especially in pictures and eventually I would like to straighten them again. As far as plastic surgery - I don't think I could ever go under the knife. For the most part I am happy with the way I look.
11I'd straighten my teeth but I'd never get cosmetic surgery just because of a slight imperfection.
12I think someday I may get Breast Implants but only because i"m a small A cup and although i'm completely happy with my size, i wouldn't mind having cleavage to show off to my boyfriend and future husband someday
. I wouldn't get anything else altered though because I'm
pretty happy with myself. I will be getting chemical peels or laser resurfacing done soon though for the little acne scars on my cheeks just to improve my complexion. I think cosmetic surgery
just for cosmetic reasons is a bad idea, but when its on the verge of cosmetic and actually needing the surgery I can understand. I have a friend who hates her nose, and although she is
beautiful and her nose doesn't make her look bad, it is rather big and causes her sinus problems, So she would be going initially to get it redone but it will also help her breath better
(trust me, she snores SOOO loud lol, i love her though
) But that is just an example.
I think if someone wants plastic surgery just to get it done its a big no no
13It's easy to say now that I'd never get plastic surgery, because I know I could never afford it. But if I had a ton of disposable income...I'm not so sure I'd keep my "beautiful as is" standpoint. (Though I hope I would.)
And I thought it was interesting that Dear grouped teeth straightening as a cosmetic procedure. I mean, duh, of course it is, but I never thought of it like that. My parents paid good, hard earned money to get me braces, and there was never anything medically wrong or severly crooked about my teeth. But society says it's standard to fix that flaw, so we do. I wonder if in fifty years, middle class parents will take out loans to get their teenage daughters nose jobs and breast implants...
14i might get somethings fixed, but nothing crazy. To each their own though. I kind of liked Katherines teeth before, but if it bothered her then it's her right to fix it
15I chose other. It extremely bothers me that my eyes are two different sizes. I would fix it with cosmetic surgery if I had the $$.
16I had my teeth fixed and it made an enormous difference in my life. I was always a smiler, but self-conscious about my teeth. Now I smile bigger and brighter, so I know just what she means.
17Probably the only thing I would like to do is go to the dermatologist and get my skin fixed. I had really bad acne as a teenager (and I sometimes still break out pretty bad now), so I have some pretty bad scarring. Someday I'm hoping I'll have some money to get that "fixed". Other than that, I'd like to get my teeth professionally whitened.
I don't think I'd get any extreme procedures done. I don't even know if I'll get these little things fixed. I mean, my "problems" can be fixed with some good concealer and Crest white strips.
18I would never get anything major (like collagen lips, implants, etc...) where its obvious. But if I could get my eyes fixed (Lasik) to fix my vision, or something else then I would.
19I've had 3 c-sections so my belly is sagging and no amount of sit ups will fix muscles that have been through the wringer (and knife). I'd go have a tummy tuck in a heartbeat. I'd also like to get my nose fixed, that little bump, yeah, bothersome. Not a darn thing wrong with improving upon nature.
20I LOVE imperfections because they make us unique not like dolls or some robot (for those who go CRAZY)---if people have low self-esteem or body-dysmorphia they just should not get lots of plastic surgery (Michael Jackson). Others are getting subtle changes and they have lost their personality---the latest I believe is Ashley Tisdale, and the other Simpson sister, and Jennifer Grey (from "Dirty Dancing"). These ladies lost their uniqueness. Maybe they are happier, but their careers in the acting/singing world tanked.
With all of that said, I checked other because you never know if you'll be in some accident that will disfigure your face or other part(s) of your body and you'll need/want reconstructrive surgery. God help me so this never happens, but I wanted to answer the question honestly.
People should feel good about themselves inside and out and if the out does not match the inside then they can make changes, but I think they should have to see a psychologist a minimum of five times.
21This is a lifetime committment in most cases.
Okay, now reading some of your posts.... the eye surgery, and tooth correction are totally not what I was noting.... I guess I was noting plastic surgery and reconstruction in my earlier post. I whiten my teeth and I see nothing wrong with that. It's proper dental hygene. I also wear make-up if I have a blemish and that could be considered a flaw.
This question is making my brain hurt. Must stop thinking now.
22I would love Lasik eye procedure.
23Yeah, if something is bothering me, like a tooth sticking out in the ether, I'm going to get it fixed.
24If it is something that you want and that you feel will improve your life, then do it. Just make sure that you are only doing it for yourself and not for anyone else.
25Here's the thing: While I agree on the whole that imperfections are beautiful, scars are interesting, and our differences make us special, improvements/changes like straightening one's teeth are, to me, on par with wearing contacts. Having straight, white teeth, while a beauty issue, is also seen as a health issue.
26Maybe its a fine point and I'm drawing distinctions where there shouldn't be but while I see a problem with fixing a crooked nose that may add character to your face, I see nothing wrong with fixing crooked teeth.
I would never, ever have the bump taken out of my nose. Ashley Tisdale might have her face ironed out, but I think my nose makes me unique and real, and shows that I'm genuine. I watched my mom go through the extraordinary pain of lipo, and while I inherited her thighs, I'd rather stay all natural than go through that agony.
27She's an incredibly beautiful woman. I always liked the fact she had crooked teeth. I think it added to her beauty.
28When i gained weight a decade ago, i got stretch marks, i'd love to get rid of them permanently.
29Thar Ashley thing was quite funny. ;d
30i looooved katherine's teeth that sticked out a bit =| oh well!
31I have a laundry list of things I'd do! If I had the money, of course. Plastic surgery is costly! I think if something bothers you, as long as you don't get carried away, fixing it is harmless. I also think that a lot of this depends on the person.. getting teeth whitened, or working out compulsively to look a particular way is virtually the same as getting work done in my oppinion, but not everyone thinks like I do
32After I had my son my boobs looked like rocks in socks! So yes, I had a breast augmentation/lift. I did it for me! I love my boobs!
33I have no problem with changing my looks. I'm actually fixing my crooked teeth right now, and happy to be having it done!
34Yes, you are so right... it's important to do it for yourself and not someone else.
35I would consider something like teeth straightening, or perhaps an eye lift as I get older and I've THOUGHT about Lipo, but ANYTHING that would require me to go under the knife would probably be out because I'm a huge chicken!
36I would and I did. I recenlty got invisalign to fix my teeth and it really changed my life. Absolutely. Great investment! I just regret not doing it sooner.
37As many people here, I would not go under knife. But I would get my teeth straightened in a heartbeat. I think teeth are one of those things that just look best when they are perfect. We can't all have "perfect" noses and eyes and figures (and what's "perfect" changes all the time anyway), but if we all had perfect teeth, it would not change much
38I think there's a huge difference between orthodontia and unnecessary surgery. I would do something such as fix my teeth (something that, thankfully, my parents did for me over 10 years in my childhood), but I would not get a nose job or anything like that!
39I'm 19 years old. I'm getting a rhinoplasty (nose job) in 5 weeks because my nose is crooked. I'm not doing it for anyone else, I'm doing it for myself because I know I will feel much more confident afterwards.
40I'd straighten and whiten my teeth. They're not too crooked, but the top and bottom don't line up, if that makes sense.
41i'm getting laminates for my birthday so i can finally have white teeth (i have a bonded tooth so i can't whiten them) and in a few years i will probably have to get a breast reduction for back pain and other health reasons, even though i don't mind them so much (and i laughed out loud at that part in superbad where he says "it's like kicking God in the face!) i have really bad vision, but i don't really want lasik because i feel like my glasses are a part of me now, if that makes sense. i honestly don't know what i would do if i woke up in the morning able to see my alarm clock!! but other than those 2 things i don't foresee myself getting any serious cosmetic surgery because i am a chicken.
42I want to fix my physical imperfections, but I'm not sure if I would actually take action because I'm averse to risk and to paying money. I have very crowded and crooked teeth that a lot of people have noticed. If I had gotten orthodontics as a child, I would probably have been the one stuck in a headset for 10 years, as if acne, strong myopia, glasses, slouching, clumsiness, horrid athletic skills, and poor social skills weren't bad enough. Relatives ask my parents why they didn't get me braces. When I was in school, classmates came up to me and told I should get braces. My parents mistrust modern dentistry, and they believe in orthodontics even less, so they never took me to a dentist at all. They claimed that fixing crooked teeth was shallow and suggested that my education was more important than my looks. Ironically, I think modeling would be a much cooler profession than programming, which is what I do now.
I also want breast implants because I'm too small for even an A cup. I don't want cosmetic surgery for improvements that can be accomplished through exercise, such as slimming. I've already mostly fixed my slouch by taking up dancing.
43I think the concept of "imperfection" is faulty to begin with.
and this awful need to all end up looking the same, is saddening.
44If we are all unique, then where does "imperfection" come in? Imperfection does not exist, for we are all different
I've had my teeth bleached and I was thrilled with the result. People comment on how white my teeth are.
In the future I would love to have a breast reduction, otherwise I'm happy with what I've got when I'm in good shape.
45there are several things i'd like to have done, namely something to get rid of my horrible acne, lasik, and teeth whitening and straightening. i always said i'd never do anything involving surgery but just today i was thinking that i wouldn't mind a little boob job (one is slightly smaller than the other and for some reason i really noticed it today) lol. i say do whatever makes you happy. personally i cringe when i see women full of botox and silicone, but to each their own.
46If there is something about me that makes me insecure and it's a painless fix, then I would definitely do something about it. I have a dark patch of skin across my back and nothing can be done about it, so I just don't wear short shirts or bikinis.
